Training and Supervision of RBTs and Parents in the Use of Assent Based Practices within the R.E.A.L. Model™
Course Description: This training covers strategies for effective supervision utilizing Acceptance Commitment Therapy to increase the fidelity of implementation of assent based procedures. Participants will review behavior analytic methodology in the context of Assent based practices. Ensuring an environment for a child to learn and prepared to learn will be discussed. In addition, this training will cover the R.E.A.L. Model™ and its use in identifying when assent is given and withdrawn across different trainers, situations, time and throughout treatment. Finally, strategies for coaching parents in assent based practices within the R.E.A.L. Model™ and involving parents in the effective implementation of the principles of behavior analysis will be discussed.

The Path to Effective Supervision 2.0

Number of Units: This training meets the BACB 8-hour supervision training requirement
Course Description: **This training program is based on the BACB Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline (2.0) but is offered independent of the BACB.**
This training focuses on the development of an effective supervisory relationship. Participants will gain skill in identifying the effects of ineffective supervision, ethical considerations within supervisory relationship, and the analysis and problem solving of supervision barriers. ACT Core Processes will be discussed in relation to increasing the effectiveness of supervision. This training is designed to cover the Nature of Supervision as described by the BACB, as well as the BACB Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline (2.0) and is designed for those who will be supervising supervisees obtaining supervised experience hours, BCaBAs, and RBTs, as well as those wanting to increase their skills as an effective supervisor.

Analysis of Motivating Operations and Interventions to Reduce Problem Behavior in Applied Settings

Course Description: As part of a Functional Assessment of problem behaviors, a thorough analysis of the client’s Motivating Operations should be included in order to increase the likelihood of reducing the targeted problem behaviors, as well as the skills needed to replace the need to engage in the targeted behaviors. Choice making procedures will also be discussed including what type of choice making procedure to use based on the current MO condition and the effects of choice making procedures on MO conditions.

Teaching Psychological Flexibility to Adolescents Using ACT

Course Description: Individuals diagnosed with Autism demonstrate deficits in social skills and executive functioning but this deficit manifests itself in a variety of ways. Treating deficits in the ACT Hexaflex using ACT is a relatively new area of research. This course will review the foundation of ACT, including Relational Frame Theory and Functional Contextualism and the ACT core processes. Additionally, participants will review videos of adolescents engaging in psychological inflexibility and practice making ACT-based recommendations to increase psychological flexibility.

When we provide supervision to others, ethics must be in the forefront of our training and contact with those we supervise. The quality of supervision we provide as Behavior Analysts will set the stage for the future of our field and allows for high quality of services to our clients. This training will discuss setting the stage for an ethical environment, increasing ethical behaviors in those we supervise, and developing an ethical and professional Behavior Analyst. We will also discuss how to make ethical decisions when faced with ethical dilemmas during the course of supervision.

Individualizing supervision and training for your supervisee will help provide effective supervision during the supervisory relationship. Initial interaction with your supervisee requires assessment, gaining baseline of skills. The supervisory relationship must to evaluate throughout the entire duration of supervision. Defining the supervision relationship, including mutual expectants and communication. ACT core processes will be briefly discussed in order to assist with barriers to effective supervision and incorporating your values as well as your supervisee’s values in your supervision.

Feedback and Motivation for Effective Supervision

Course Description: **If you have already completed The Path to Effective Supervision 2.0 course, you will not be permitted to receive CEU for this course.**
Providing feedback to your supervisee is a crucial component of supervision. Identifying individual’s Motivational Typologies (Gellar 2016 and Covington 1992) will help you as a supervisor to increase the self-motivation of your supervisee. Providing positive reinforcement and fact-based feedback as part of the consequence to your supervisee’s behaviors in order to improve competence, self-motivation, and performance. The art of the delivery of positive reinforcement will also improve these areas. Along with the delivery of reinforcement, supervisees may also require the skills needed to receive feedback and applying the feedback for behavior change. Effects of supervisee’s behaviors when feedback is not given, as well as identifying barriers to feedback will also be discussed.
